Ashore App today announced Smart Review, a new capability that automatically compares a new proof version against the one before it and highlights exactly what changed. Available on Standard plans and above, Smart Review marks changed text, images, and moved elements right on the proof, so approvers stop hunting for edits and start approving faster.
Every creative team knows the version-two problem. A client asked for three small changes, you sent a new version, and now everyone is squinting between two files trying to confirm that the right things changed, and only the right things. Miss one and an unintended edit slips through to the client. Smart Review does that comparison for you the moment a new version lands.
The problem is bigger than it feels in the moment. In an analysis of more than 500,000 proofs sent through Ashore, roughly 4 in 10 went through more than one version, and more than a third of all approvals came only after at least one revision. The average proof runs to nearly two versions, and the pattern compounds: the odds a proof needs yet another round climb from about 40 percent at the first revision to more than 60 percent once several versions are in. Every one of those rounds is a moment where someone has to work out, all over again, exactly what changed.
How Does It Work?
Smart Review runs on the review screen whenever a proof has two or more versions. It compares the newest version against the previous one, so there is nothing extra to set up for each review.

Every change, marked on the proof. Changed text, swapped images, and moved or added elements are highlighted directly on the new version. Each change is numbered, so a reviewer can work through them one by one.

A version-to-version list, not a manual side-by-side. In compare mode, a Smart Review panel lists the detected changes for each file, page by page, with a before and after crop of every change. Minor rendering differences are grouped together so the list stays focused on what matters.

Clear confirmation when nothing changed. If a version has no changes, Smart Review says so directly. It confirms that every page matched the previous version, instead of leaving your approvers to double check by eye.

Honest about its limits. When a file cannot be compared, Smart Review tells you why rather than failing quietly, whether the file type is unsupported, a match could not be made confidently, or the document is too large to compare.

Off until you want it. Smart Review is an account setting, off by default. Turn it on once and it applies to every multi-version proof from then on.
